Experimental and Mixed Media Drawings

In this day of digital manipulation of photographs it becomes hard to tell what is physical and what is purely electronic.  In these series I examine this by starting with a digital photograph printed out at 16x20 which I then manipulate physically in the studio.  I then photograph the work, bring it back into the original photograph, digitally combined the two and reprint the photo.  I then proceeded to physically manipulate the image again Only smaller fine art prints are left as a result.  The physical artifacts are of an extremely nonarchival nature and will not last long.

The Fish Head series is being shown in the Resident Artist V show at Altered Esthetics July 2-25, 2009.

In these drawings I am working out the style to use for a graphic novel about ghosts.  Same image but different drawing material and paper.

In this series I was working from a photo taken along the Mississippi.  I did three physical states.
This series is available as a set of three 8"x10" fine art prints. Refernece Photo N/A Iteration #1 image size 16"x20", print 8"x10", 2008 Iteration #2 image size 16"x20", print 8"x10", 2008 Iteration #2 image size 16"x20", print 8"x10", 2008

This series started with an animal hobby horse from Waite Park In Minneapolis.  #2 is a purely digital iteration.

This really isn't drawing but it is experimental.  It is a collaboration piece with Daniel Kerkoff for the Residents Artists show this year at AE.  The original piece is named Semi.
This is the original piece as received.  It is on unstretched canvas. I created an armature which is 44"x72" and wrapped it with woven sterile gauze.  I then attached the canvas with close pins I added a blue grey color to the piece picking up on the grey color in the original piece. I added white to damp out some of the blue grey and then add the strong lines mirroring the existing lines.
This is the finished piece as delivered to the gallery for the opening on April 2, 2010. I added stencil text in two sizes and colors along with biohazard symbols. I painted the clothes pins white so they would stand out more. I next added a cast shadow figure to the piece. I then add a skein of monofilament line over the entire piece picking up on the scratches in the original painting.
